Three Speech was at the Mayfair hotel in London earlier this week to witness the unveiling of the PS3’s biggest post-release title, Heavenly Sword, expected out in the UK this September. From what we’ve seen and played, it’s going to be an epic next-gen fantasy romp, involving a gorgeous, flame-haired warrior princess, a whole heap of medieval violence and hoardes of monsters to slice and dice your way through.
On hand to shoot the breeze at the swanky event was top-ranking CGI actor Andy Serkis - better known as Gollum and King Kong. He’s in the game as the brilliant evil king, and also directed the game’s other actors in its many beautiful, cinematic cut-scenes.
Andy revealed how he came to work on the game through the unlikeliest of situations and explained how motion capture has given Heavenly Sword its hyper-realistic look and feel. We also spoke to developers Ninja Theory in some detail about the game’s genesis, its stunning graphic realisation and next-gen combat system - and how the game was in development just waiting for the PS3 to make it all possible.
Then we had a natter with Mercury-award winning musician Nitin Sawhney, who wrote the soundtrack. He explained just why he need a whole philharmonic orchestra and half the world’s ethnic musicians to capture the essence of Heavenly Sword through music.
Oh, and we also managed to grab some time with the gorgeous girls whose faces and figures were mapped out and motion captured to be the game’s firey lead Nariko and her in-game companion Kai. All we’ll say about that is, ‘grrrr’.
Check back in shortly to see our video interviews.

Perhaps the most intriguing and innovative PS3 games demoed before launch is nearing completion: Eye of Judgment, as the below announcement shows, is set to arrive in the UK this autumn.
It caught the eye initially, as instead of using the Sixaxis, it uses a never-before-seen combination of the PlayStation Eye, mounted looking down so it is pointing at a special playing mat. On which players must place special playing cards, which the system reads. Manipulation of those cards allows them to play the game.
We haven’t managed to get hands-on experience yet, so we can’t tell you exactly what it’s like to play, but we can be sure it will be pretty wacky and unlike any other game you’ve played. Of course, as soon as we do get a chance to play Eye of Judgment, we’ll report back swiftly.
Thought we’d offer this release to you verbatim…

The Chimeran menace looms large once more in this multiplayer expansion pack for Resistance: Fall of Man™, the action-horror game for PLAYSTATION®3 that re-imagines world history and sees humanity under assault from a terrifying virus.
Resistance: Fall of Man Map Pack 1 incorporates two additional multiplayer territories for you to purge of the Chimeran threat. Launch silent sniper attacks across the snowy slopes of Westmorland, taking cover in the shadow of Chimeran architecture, or go below ground with all guns blazing to save autumnal Camborn from the plague of inhuman invaders.
These maps support all multiplayer game types. You must own Resistance:Fall of Man to play either map.

They’ll be shutting the multiplayer servers down on Friday from 0200 to 1800 (UK time), allowing us to update them with the new maps & global server patch… this means that when you play Resistance from now on, you’ll have the option to play against everyone else in the world (not just Europe, which is how its been since launch)…. you’ll also be able to buy the additional map pack (£2.99) from the in-game menu screen, as well as from the PSN store… making things more seamless.

This PlayStation ‘advert’, supposedly created for Sony in India, has been picking up negative press in The Guardian and on feminist websites in the last couple of days. Simultaneously, various marketing industry pundits have been singing its praises.
We’re reliably informed, however, it’s not a bona fide PlayStation advert.

A spot of PSP news: IGN’s PSP Game Of The Year from last year is coming back, with the sequel featuring a storyline by thriller novelist and DC Comics star writer Greg Rucka.
Out in Europe in October, the game has Rucka (writer of Batman, Gotham Central and Queen And Country) crafting a story that reaches from the depths of the Indian Ocean to the deserts of the Middle East, with the mission being to prevent a revolutionary new weapon falling into the wrong hands – all the while with a mysterious agent following you in the shadows.
New gameplay features include underwater combat, blind fire and grappling, as well as realistic environment physics which enable you to bring down structures on top of your enemies. There’s also a multiplayer Ad-Hoc Mode and a host of new ’shooters’: spear guns and bolt pistols bolster your arsenal of grenade launchers, sticky mines, smoke grenades and flash bangs.

While on the subject of upcoming PS3 racing titles, the much-requested in-car view has apparently been confirmed for Gran Turismo 5. Gamespot reported that the change will be implemented for the first time in the life of the series. As a signed-up member of the ‘off at the first corner’ club, it doesn’t really bother me whether that happens from a perspective inside the car or not, but to people who can drive, does this kind of thing make a difference?
