Evolution Studio’s Paul Hollywood tells us all about MotorStorm and its downloadable content:
There’s a couple seemingly in the works and they’re both worth waiting for. There’s the MotorStorm update coming on June 7, which includes the following according to IGN
- New Time Attack game mode
- Fix for 5.1 and 7.1 audio
- Corrections to a ranking system
- Correction to the boost mode in multiplayer
- Autostart with a fixed countdown time in multiplayer lobby
And many other improvements. Click here to find out more.
Also, the firmware 2.00 update is allegedly coming soon. There is unsurprisingly no detail or even confirmation available at this time, but as we like speculation as much as the next man, why not tell us what improvements you’d like to see to the firmware?
There’s already been something of an update to how the Playstation Network is going to develop in the future, as SCEA’s Michael Shorrock speaks to an audience of developers and gives out plenty of hints as to where PSN is going next. There’s nothing concrete as to where, when and how yet, but there’s plenty of hints as to how developers can incorporate Home into games by having their own virtual ‘pavilions’ within the space. Obviously this is all broad brush stuff that we probably won’t see anything of for the next six to 12 months at least, but looks like the kind of thing that could make Home stand out from the crowd. Talking at London’s DevStation Conference (a PS3 developer’s event), Michael Denny, VP of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Europe, explained a little about the MotorStorm download packs, the success of PSN and Home’s impending role in the social networking phenomenon. Hi all,
Kicking off 2007, here’s some pretty stunning new MotorStorm screen shots - the first shows the multiplayer function, with Evolution planning on enabling up to 15 people to play a game together online; the latter two show the night time level.
Plenty more to come from Three Speech in the near future, so stay tuned.
We’ve been inundated with requests for some high-res stills of MotorStorm following Three Speech’s recent footage taken up at Evolution Studios. Hope these do the job:
If anyone ever asks you what all the fuss is about as far as next-gen consoles are concerned, all you need do is show them MotorStorm. This outrageous mud-plugging racer, set in a near-photo-realistic Monument Valley is the most anticipated European PS3 launch – and it was created in the less than salubrious surroundings of Runcorn, between Liverpool and Manchester.
We visited developer Evolution Studios, TV camera at the ready, and asked the key MotorStorm players how they managed to create such a monster, and what is it, precisely, that makes the game stand out. In this video you will find CEO and Founder Martin Kenwright talking you through MotorStorm’s “off-the-scale” physics, unprecedented car deformation and accurately modelled mud, as well as confirming that there will be downloadable content available for Motor Storm via the PlayStation Network.
Meanwhile, Producer Simon Benson describes the extreme lengths Evolution went to in their quest to film Monument Valley in HD, and the difficulty of getting the levels just right so that they could accommodate seven types of vehicle. And Lead Designer Nigel Kershaw describes how MotorStorm’s AI, with its so-called Gag system, focuses on entertaining human players, by such diverse means as getting bikers to flip you the finger, or gaggles of trucks to gang up on you and run you off the road.

Here is the first of our films. Hopefully the footage reflects how much fun it was actually playing the game. There’s also a few gems about the downloadable content that CEO Martin Kenwright let us in on. Enough talking - take a look for yourself…
