
Further to the earlier posting, here’s a more in depth report on PlayTV, PlayStation 3’s new software that turns yours machine into the hub of your televisual experience. David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, is quoted as saying “PS3 already provides High Definition gaming, Blu-ray Disc movies, music, video, photo album, web browsing and PLAYSTATION Network support. With the introduction of PlayTV’s state of the art TV tuner and PVR functionality, PS3 is now the best choice of home entertainment hub for the whole family.” Good news for all PlayStation 3 owners. Release is scheduled for early 2008.

Sony have unveiled a satellite navigation package for the PSP which is scheduled for release in the new year under the name of Go!Explore. There are seven territories currently covered: UK/Ireland; Iberia; France; GAS (Germany/Austria/Switzerland); Italy; Benelux and Scandinavia.
Go!Explore combines both pedestrian (my A-Z now has games on it - genius!) and in-car navigation, and will also have a bundle available containing Car Adaptor and Car Mount accessories.
Exciting times for those of us with no sense of direction.

More Leipzig news… Go!Messenger is a new wireless communications package for the PSP which is scheduled for release in January 2008. Using cutting-edge IP technology and in partnership with BT, you will be able to download a small application and then be able to instant message each other using Wi-Fi. Adding a headset will also give you the opportunity to voice chat and video message.
Stephane Hareau, PSP European marketing manager, said, “Enabling more than 8.5 Million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through Video or Voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP.'’
Those Wi-Fi spots in coffee shops are starting to seem even more appealing.

Sony have revealed a Go! branded download service in conjunction with BSkyB which will give PSP owners the chance to watch video on demand and wherever they choose.
David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said, “Both truly mobile and with a best in class high-quality screen, PSP delivers a great on-the-move video experience. Working with such a well known content brand, we will be able to offer PSP owners access to the best in cross-genre Sky content, available through the first official video download service. This really will make PSP the standout all-in-one portable gaming, video and music device”.

SCEE also unveiled the new PSP Slim And Lite at Leipzig, which will retail for £129.99 UK and €169, and will be available from September 5. It will come in limited edition Simpsons and Spiderman colours (coupled with respective films) as well as Piano Black, Ceramic White and Ice Silver. There was also mention of the new Go! portfolio which includes satellite navigation and instant, video and voice messaging services amongst it’s many talents.

At its press conference at the Leipzig Gaming Convention, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed news of new products for the PlayStation 3 and the PSP.
Big announcements include the launch of a TV Tuner, including PVR software, for the PlayStation 3, the unveiling of the new PSP Slim & Lite (available in September), a video download service for the PSP in conjunction with BSkyB, a video chat, voice chat and instant messaging service for PSP, and the launch of a state-of-the-art PSP satellite navigation system, both for car and pedestrian use.
In gaming news there was a large announcement regarding Buzz! on the PlayStation 3 - centering on the option to download new questions and play online against other teams around the world, while also being able to create your own quizzes. SCEE also confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released before Christmas and will contain five tracks and fifty cars, run in full 1080p high-definition resolution as well as being up to sixteen players online.

Confirmed retail release dates for Heavenly Sword are September 14 in the UK with the rest of Europe following on September 19.
This is now confirmed for PSN release on August 28 for £19.99 UK or €29.99. The Blu-ray/Jabra headset bundle will follow at retail on September 21 for
£39.99.
