NO 20GB VERSION IN THE UK AT LAUNCH
We’ve been told the 20GB model of the PS3 won’t be available in the UK during the inital launch window. The reason being that, having consulted with retailers, Sony expect demand for the 60GB model to significantly outstrip that for the 20GB model.

Bad.
Move.

^^ Agreed, I dont think this is too good either. Yet another time that the UK gets ripped off.

What about the rest of Europe?

That’s cool, I was always going to get the 60GB version anyway, well worth it by my reckoning.

I think most people will want the 60Gb. I think it should’ve been £399 though. I mean, now the consumer doesn’t have the choice *AND* UK consumers end up paying more.
My U.S one cost me £388 in December (eBay) and I could get another one for much less than that price now.

[…] Update: Firstly, the UK won’t be receiving the 20GB model because, based on retailer feedback, the 60GB is in much more popular demand. Secondly, the prices for the whole of Europe have been revealed, with reasoning behind the inflated prices. As mentioned above, Ireland will see the 60GB version only for €629, while the rest of Europe will receive the 60GB model for €599, whilst the 20GB model is still rumoured to go on sale at €499. The UK will see the 60GB model for £425. The reason? Ireland is an extra €20 compared to Europe due to their VAT rates being higher, at 21%. No reason was given to as to why the UK’s price was so high. Thirdly, Sony CEO Howard Stringer let slip that the launch wouldn’t be until April. Sony have since refuted this, and we are still on track for the 23rd of March, according to Threespeech again. […]

[…] Now here is a piece of news that can be twisted and distorted so easily by the trendy Wii-lovin’ Sony-hater crowd. However, well… okay so it’s not the greatest move by Sony. Even so, it makes sense given the data they’ve likely collected from the Japanese and North American launches. We’re talking about the rumor notion idea that for the European launch, there will be an extreme dearth of 20GB models of the PS3. By extreme, we mean there won’t be any at all. Don’t start yelping out in fear and anger yet, oh desirers of the 20GB model. Sony is doing you a favor. Allow the spindoctor to work his DJ magic on this… Ready? […]
