CASINO ROYALE FOR FIRST 500,000 PS3 REGISTRANTS

Yup, as per the rumours, the first 500,000 people who register their PS3 in Europe will get a copy of Casino Royale on Blu-ray (a 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc encoded in 1080P High Definition AVC, to be incredibly precise!).

Explaining the offer, Darren Carter, VP Brand and Consumer Marketing said, “The PLAYSTATION®Network unlocks the broad range of interactive entertainment features of PLAYSTATION 3. It’s easy to set up, offers free online gaming, has great tools for staying in touch with friends and family, and includes a wide variety of content for download through the PLAYSTATION®Store.”

“All this, and more, will enable users to experience a whole new world of interactive entertainment, and that is why we are offering the phenomenal incentive of Casino Royale, on Blu-ray disc, to PS3 owners who register on the PLAYSTATION®Network. Casino Royale not only makes the most of the features and capabilities of the Blu-ray format, but is one of the most exciting and entertaining movies to debut on Blu-ray this year.”

And here’s some more info that will be of interest -

* Don’t assume that because you’ve pre-registered via the website for Player ID that you will automatically be signed up for the Casino Royale Promotion. To get Casino Royale you must connect your PS3 to the network and register your console.

* There will be no extra copies of Casino Royale available if demand exceeds 500,000.

* If you live in France, Italy or Benelux you’ll receive your copy shortly after the movie is launched in your particular territory.

  2. Don’t care about movies on BR support !
    I want a lmax 450€ PS3 and good games.
    Only that.
And I want a game from the ICO team.

But please, Sony exec, do something about your quality of marketing/comm, one bad news/day is not a fatality.

  6. That is great news. Awesome news. Might pose a small problem for me though as my already pre-registrated PSN account has an address in Europe while I personally will pick up my PS3 in Australia (as I’m there eight months of the year). I guess I will have someone at home send it to me.

  7. I’m really looking forward to this :)

Fantomas, Kotaku is spreading FUD over VF5’s sales. They don’t provide details for their figures. DOA4 was probably the only game worth getting at 360’s launch over there at Xmas season and VF5 sold half as much after Xmas, in a low sales month and in a single day. We will know more about VF5’s sales this week and you can be sure they’ll be well over 60K.

  8. Superb news. I just hope it doesn’t mess with my pre-registration on the network.

  9. Does this mean that we all have to pick our consoles on launch day and register it asap? Also if its for europeans then time difference will play a part in how many free blue ray movies are given per region. I think sony should give all first units in europe the movie free.I think we all deserve it!!!

  15. Carl, nobody ever said anything about a free game.

Alexsutton, you don’t have to register another ID. Our already registered IDs haven’t been activated yet because we haven’t connected our PS3s to the PlayStation network. By the time we activate it, we will be able to get Casino Royale.

  17. “All you do to register your PS3 is just go onto a playstation3 website and hit register? Is that right? ”

It says clearly that you need to connect with your PS3, not just any computer. But otherwise: I guess your right.

  19. Good news, the movie is great but I don’t understand why sony can’t bundle it with each ps3. Here in Spain we had a lot of problems with the free spiderman 2 umd, a lot of people is still waiting for it.

  21. Good news. A bit dissapointed it won’t actually be bundled with the console… no doubt it will probably take 2 weeks to arrive. Oh well, at least we do get it, I’ll just have to buy a couple of BD’s before the launch.

  32. people stop asking if you will get it just because you already registered a name months ago. think about it, you have to register your PS3 console, as in the console itself.how would you do this months ago if you had no PS3? so basically no your PSN ID doesn’t entitle you to a copy.

    JSoares
i don’t think you can get the European copy of Casino royale or any blu ray movie at all. Blu ray movies are region coded, and even if you could it wouldn’t matter you got a Japanese PS3 and Sony will no doubt know this once you try to register the console, shoulda waited.

  34. So I’ve put up with the delay along with all the other PAL users, placed my pre-order, and now have to hope and pray that I get my PS3 on launch day (at work), get it home fast in the evening, set up, and then registered before the counter ticks over 500,000 to stand a chance of getting my compensatory BD movie?!

Thanks Sony, but somehow I don’t fancy my chances on this one :(

Oh, well, better keep all appendages crossed for the next 39 days or so!

  40. VG Aficionado, A SONY employee in the New Zealand forums said we were getting a bluRay Movie AND a game.

But it turns out that New Zealand and Aussie are not counted in this promotion. Stupid Sony, New Zealand and Aussie have the highest per capita number of PS2’s and PSPs. You think you would want to reinforce your loyal customers but you dont seem to appreciate our business. So I wont be doing business with Sony anymore.

  48. Hi there. Just a bit of clarification - if you’ve already been on the Sony site and pre-registered your ID then Sony have all your details and your ID name has been reserved. However this account isn’t live and activated until you get your PS3 out of the box, connect to the store and go to Sign In under Network. You’ll then be given the option to Create An Account or Sign In Using Existing Account. If you’ve already registered choose Sign In Using Existing Account, key in the email address you used to register your ID and your password. Hopefully one second later you’ll have a page showing your ID and giving you the option to auto-sign in every time you turn on your PS3. Hit yes. And that’s it. You’re in - and hopefully Sony will be rushing you that copy of Casino Royale.

  49. This was the kind of movie Sony needed to launch with in the US. Taladega Nights was funny and all, but we needed something with some bang. Glad to see Sony making a better choice for the EU launch.

Visit http://www.savetheps3.com to see how Sony is doing and how we can help make the PS3 better.

  51. Can people stop!!!

If you leave registering you’re PS3 until the Saturday you’ll still get a copy. Not everyone will want one. I can see Sony just about selling 500,000 PS3’s on Day one, how many of these will be put straight on Ebay with out ever coming out of the box?

And can the Aussies stop moaning because Sony aren’t giving you something for free, you acting like a bunch of spoilt brats.
