TEKKEN 5 GOES ONLINE
So folks, you’ll be happy to hear that Tekken 5 will soon be playable online. We don’t have an exact date for release, but we can tell you that it will be available as a single download from the Store soon. An update pack containing the Online modes will also be available for those who already own the title!
Press release below…
Take the Tekken Fight Online on PLAYSTATION®3
o The time is now – online Tekken comes to PLAYSTATION®Network
o Tekken™5: Dark Resurrection Online to have new match modes and rankings
o It’ll be available only as a download from the PlayStation®Store
It’s what every Tekken fan’s been hoping for and now it’s here, courtesy of PLAYSTATION®Network (PSN) – Tekken will soon be playable online for the first time. NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd. announced today that they will be releasing an updated, online version of Tekken™5: Dark Resurrection for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3), available exclusively by download from the PLAYSTATION® Store. Fight your way through the highly-anticipated online features which include ranked and non-ranked battles - allowing fans to show off their fighting skills in a non competitive environment or to battle it out with other Tekken masters to establish who the true King of Iron Fist is.
The new TEKKEN™5: Dark Resurrection Online download will include Opti Match, Quick Match, Custom Match and Friend Match options – making it easy to find the right match for you. You’ll also have the opportunity to study your opponents by viewing their stats and watching them battle. When not fighting yourself, you can psych out your next opponent with live voice chat. You’ll fight your way from ‘Beginner’ rank all the way to deadly ‘Dark Lord’ – and there will be an Online News Ticker posting the weekly, monthly and overall rank leaders at any given point, so there will be no doubt about who’s King of Iron Fist at any one time. The online update also includes two new single-player modes, including Practice Mode, where you can hone your reflexes before battling online, and Survival Mode in which you must defeat as many opponents as possible with a limited health bar.
Tekken™5: Dark Resurrection Online will be available as a single download from the Store soon. An update pack containing the Online modes will also be available for those who already own the title.
TEKKEN™5: Dark Resurrection was released earlier this year for PS3 exclusively as a download from PSN. The game features stunning 1080p graphics, classic TEKKEN gameplay and new characters Sergei Dragunov and Lili – as well as the ability to control boss character Jinpachi Mishima for the first time. There are three Competition Modes and a brand new Gallery Mode in which you can download extras including ending movies and Tekken images using Fight Money you’ve earned. The new characters join a cast of over 30 kick-ass bruisers including favourites like Jin Kazama, Eddy Gordo, King and Marshall Law – all ready to fight for the ultimate prize once again.

Awesome news, its a good game allready so adding online play should give it some extra life.

This news says to me “Tekken 6 will have online”. Namco will gain the expereince on how to put a Tekken game online and give them the extra push to make Tekken 6 outshine Tekken 5DR.

MWahaha. I tremble with anticipation as I will finally be able battle the best of the best and maybe one of them will be able to defeat me.

Very nice!
I wouldn’t mind getting extra unlockable intros/extros too

Sure it’s unrealistic to ask for stuff for free but I really feel like I’ve already paid for it. Maybe I’m just being unreasonable, at least the option is there I suppose
Comment by Ben Furneaux — June 14, 2007 @ 5:45 pm
I hope it’s going to include voice comms otherwise there’s no point. Dosent TDR have a mode where you play against AI gathered from real players?
Comment by Yaster — June 14, 2007 @ 6:04 pm
Wow finally the time has come to see if there are really any othere great Tekken players out side of JADE Gaming World Order!
Comment by All Purpose Champion — June 14, 2007 @ 6:26 pm
well been lookingforward to an online version for a while because I have not been able to make it out to go cross country to go against people so it will be great to see where I stand in tekken
Comment by Juben — June 14, 2007 @ 10:29 pm
I’m awful at Tekken, maybe I’ll find some similarly awful players online!
Comment by Shin-Ra — June 14, 2007 @ 10:32 pm
hey Ben it is FREE, if you’ve already purchased the game.
Shin-Ra you probably won’t find any awful players online

would be nice if we had some dates for this… if it comes out after Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD remix, then I am sure no one will be playing it

It’s Tekken long enough!
OK, bad puns aside, were the Practice Mode & Survival Mode options previously dropped to reduce the overall download size/time? Was splitting the game into more manageable download chunks a pre-planned strategy, or has the turn-of-face come about due to public pressure? Either way, it is good news
Can we expect further add-ons or mini-games to Tekken 5.2/5.5/Dark Resurrection, such as “Devil Within”, “Beach Ball”, “Tekken Bowl”, or even “Tekken Force” mode?
Also, when is “soon”?
Is a Sony “soon” time duration like a “Sega Ages”?
BFN,
fp.
PS. Once “soon” is reached, I fight as “Bruiser Lee” using the Martial Law character, and I am currently ranked as ‘Shihan’.
In the words of Duke Nukem… “come get some”

[…] permalink Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is set to have a new online mode added soon, it has been confirmed. For the first time Tekken will be available to play online, available as an add on purchase for existing owners of the download game, or together as a full package for new customers. Earlier in the year the makers of Virtua Fighter 5 for the PS3 and 360 said that it wasnt possible to include online battles in games where decisions are so precise and quick, so it is a surprise that Tekken has managed to squeeze it into the Playstation Network. The game will feature Opti Match, Quick Match, Custom Match and Friend Match options, as well as a ranking system and voice chat. Once purchased the game will be free to play online. Included in the online update will be two single player modes; Practice Mode, and Survival Mode, where you continue to face different opponents whilst keeping the same health from previous battles.
