Bit of a round up, starting with…
Reviews on Three Speech. Yep, we can understand if any of you have reservations over us featuring first party titles but, equally, we don’t censor our writers and view reviews appearing here much the same as them appearing in the official magazine. Let us know your thoughts - if it’s apparent you don’t want these reviews, we’ll steer clear.
Leipzig. We’ll have Leipzig Gaming Convention news to tell next week, including some clarification on the digital TV tuner.
3Rooms. We’ll be back there again shortly. Most likely with a Warhawk competition evening, at which we’ll also offer a sneak peak at a few other titles, in September.

reviews - are fine. just keep them fair and balanced and give initial impressions. and please try not to spoil too much of the story in the games. that’s one reason why i don’t read alot of reviews.
leipzig - oooh. would like to hear more on the digital tv tuner+tivo possibility of the ps3. record hi-def signals and play back on ps3. that would just be the best…
3rooms - can’t wait for warhawk! i’m still suffering from withdrawal from the beta! will we see some vids from 3rooms?

Tell me there’s going to be a freeview reciever with HDD recording, and a composite video input for cable users, with upscaling to 1080p.
That would be the ideal for me

Oh dear! UK:Resistance got to you then!
I can understand really though, it does seem a bit weird that you review your own games… though i think this blog is still finding its way in the world isn’t it?
Don’t let Cutlack get to you, remember he’s a OXM writer! If you want him to love you, and it seems like you may (?) then put up some fan written Sonic fantasies or pictures and he’ll be applausing you in minutes.
So do you guys write for the official playstation magazine then? I’m a little lost now - and i always thought this was one person even though you refer to yourselves and not yourself a lot?
Hmmm. Keep it going anyway, i’m enjoying the reading and most posters seem quite mature anyway. If i want to talk about having sex with hedgehogs i’ll pop over to UK:Resistance later.

I want reviews that are honest. Nowhere in your review did you bring up any criticisms whatsoever. Now, are we to honestly believe that you think the games you review are perfect?
Your review might as well have been on the back of the game as a story synopsis. Totally useless for anyone wondering if it is worth picking up the game.

I cannot honestly believe that you did not find Heavenly Sword to unoriginal. This type of gameplay has been done to death, lovely graphics yes but the sheer drudgery of having to wade through countless enemies in the demo trying to pull off remarkably similar looking “combos” was a very tedious experience. On the strength of the demo I will not be buying Heavenly Sword, that’s why demos are good, reviews are subjective and videos of games are a total waste of time, effort and bandwidth.
Comment by Ton Capone — Aug 14, 2007 @ 5:45 pm
Well, I don’t want to come off too mean in my first post, but if you have cast your full judgement on a game based on a 5 minute demo, then you need to find another hobby.
The heavenly sword demo was intended to give us a feel for what the game’s atmosphere and combat system is going to be like. If you notice, they gave the OFFICIAL, and more involved demo to the critics and they have responded positively.
Personally, I’ve played through the demo many times and each time I’ve come up with new ways to engage the enemy. The game might be linear, but the combat surely is not.
P.S. Review all you want! Intelligent people will see your reviews as simply just another opinion to consider before buying the game. No harm.

More Three Rooms definitely
More coverage of events like Leipzig too
Personally I’m not keen on reviews, except for user submitted ones (by the regulars).
I think most people come here for exclusive news that we don’t get anywhere else, and rumour quashing, and of course your super Three Rooms events

Every time I figure Sony can’t make any more blunders, they get caught reviewing their own games.
Come on, how naieve are you? Did you REALLY think you wouldn’t be crucified by the Xbots and Sony Haters for that?
I sometimes you wonder if Sony do these things on purpose..

Reviews are always nice so we can hear about features and look at the pretty screenshots. I’d welcome them.

I wonder if you’ll ever publish a review which truly labels a game as pure trash.
It’s not difficult (for me at least) to see a review from Threespeech as a marketing ploy. If I’d see a review on Playstation.blog, it would really stink.
Here, I just feel uncomfortable. “Well, don’t read it then” some might say. Try, I won’t read them.
But I think you should try to maintain some sort credibility. The “fanboy cast” hurt the blog, and I think you should concentrate on trying to be as honest and clean as possible.
Recognizing that reviews here looks a bit shady is to your credit. This shows honesty.
Just skip the reviews. You do the rest quite well I think.
Oh, and please don’t publish just press releases. Press releases are just boring.
Playstation.blog has let their contributors to personalize their postings more, with youtube clips and whatnot. This blog still looks like only marketing, and not outreaching to the community.

Reviews are fine guys. Just keep it balanced, give both credit and criticism where it’s due. Can’t wait for more 3Room events! Of course Leipzig, dying to know what announcements Sony make.

Fine, but consider making the website more PS3-browser friendly while you are at it
Comment by Christian Schade — Aug 15, 2007 @ 9:54 am
I kind of like the reviews just for more information on the game. If you do happen to take away the rewviews please keep doing the previews because those are great.
Comment by Rob — Aug 15, 2007 @ 10:24 am
If you keep that threespeech explained at the top of your site i have no issues with what you do its just that its not clear that this is a sony funded site (through a 3rd party marketing company)
The comparason to offical magazines is not really relevant as the magazines are not funded by sony..
