From the Konami pre-TGS press conference comes news that the long awaited Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will in fact come with an online “starter pack”, giving you a small taste of the Metal Gear Online experience. Exact details aren’t available just yet - however, this does mean that you will have access to some kind of online functionality with MGS4 straight from the box, without buying Metal Gear Online which is classed as a separate game.
In other MGS4 news from the conference, a new trailer was shown (not available to the public just yet) and Hideo Kojima said that the game was still on track for an early 2008 release.

Groovy. Although I will say his as someone who defected to xbox that I got rather fond of Splinter Cell and preferred that to MGS3, still time will tell I guess. I’m hoping the game will take in more than the desert environments… they look very bland as any desert would I guess.

Cool another reason to get MGS4 as if we needed any more of those

Found a story in a Norwegian newspaper saying that the IGN people got to try playing Burnout Paradise at the EA both at the Tokyo Gameshow, with what turned out to be a rumble version of the Sixaxis controller. Which of course have intensified the speculations on that the rumble versions of sixaxis will be the keynote announcement from Sony.

At the moment worried less about the PSN store and more about the future of Playstation as an actual brand - considering Sony are selling off Cell production plants to the highest bidder….doesn’t bode well

That sucks that you have to buy two games to get the full experience. I guess a MP demo is a nice bone thrown to us…. but really… the SP and MP should all be on one disc.

@ Christian - thats true, according to IGN. Hopefully we’ll find out more tomorrow from the keynote with Kaz Hirai.
@ Caleb - its not a “demo”, more of the basic thing. They haven’t actually announced how they intend to handle the release… for all we know they might be planning to make the online component downloadable.

[…] In other MGS4 news, it has been revealed that the game will include an online starter pack. It seems this pack is something of a free taster in preparation for Metal Gear Online. Further details are yet to be made clear, so it’s safe to just say that Guns of the Patriots will have some online functionality, while Metal Gear Online will remain a seperate title. […]

Hey ThreeSpeech, any chance you could ask SCEE why we’re waiting half a year longer than the US and Japan to receive the Dual Shock 3?
Thanks. ¬¬

@Terry
Take a look here:

Sony will still be involved in the development of the cell, but not the production from what I gather. Should help them claw back some funds hopefully.

Selling the production does make sense I guess, but I wish they had done this sooner if it meant getting exclusives such as Resident Evil, GTA & Devil May Cry.
At one time these were all slated for PS3 only release which would have assured Sony success. Its gone the other way now in that not only are all the hot games multiplatform, but they are also appearing earlier on rival systems. Sony, use this money to put you back in the frame before its too late.
