We have five copies of the recently released Colin McRae: DiRT available thanks to our friends at Codemasters. First five people to answer the following question will win the game and a limited edition keyring (for your car keys). Bear in mind there is a postal strike, so the games won’t arrive on your doorstep until the end of next week if you win. Sorry, competition is only open to UK residents.
Right, the question is - how many styles of off-road competition are in DiRT?

corr
crossover
hill climb
rally
rally raid
rallycross
so i say 6

hmm reading back my answers makes me doubt things.. The question is sort of ambiguous, I mean do they mean rally, career multiplayer etc or do they mean the types of races available.
After all its all mostly off road isnt it!

Comment by Nebbs — Oct 4, 2007 @ 7:22 pm
Could be 3 or:
The game includes six different racing disciplines, which consist of rally, rallycross, hillclimb, CORR, crossover, and rally raid varieties.

Well the website says “9 styles of offroad racing”, so I guess that’s what they meant. I realise there’s already been 5 with this answer, but what the hell! Kind of vague question though

Quote from dirt’s press release, ‘’Featuring a massive range of OFF-ROAD RACE EXPERIENCES ON GRAVEL, MUD AND DIRT(=3!), gamers will get their fix of throwing 46 vehicles, including FWD, 4WD, Classic and RWD cars, through the most challenging and treacherous stages, tracks and circuits all over the world. ‘’ Hopefully someone from threespeech, will confirm the answer, wanna know if i won or not

The blog isn’t showing all the answers people put, like I answered 9 at 9:04pm last night (which was the first correct answer of 9), yet someone ten minutes later thought he was the first person… darn blog software!
Comment by Paul — Oct 5, 2007 @ 9:37 am
Yeah nice try Paul, but you didn’t post until 5 minutes after me
, you’re still in the top 5 don’t worry about it
A friend of mine tried to post and he couldn’t post at all, presumably because it was his first post and it went into moderation. Although I suppose you could say it’s fair that you needed to have posted previously to register so the prize goes to blog regulars.
I also sent an e-mail just to be on the safe side!
Any idea when they will announce the winners?
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 5, 2007 @ 9:44 am

Comment by Mostyn — Oct 5, 2007 @ 9:45 am
Actually I did fella (I should be in the top 5 either way, but it’s the principle of the matter), my post was prior to yours, it just doesn’t show on the blog
If you hover the time time when the posts were made you’ll note there are gaps in the sequence. Between your post and the one above there is a ten post gap, my post was in that… at 9:04pm, I also made another couple after that as when I looked at it in IE (rather than FF) I couldn’t see it. I sent ThreeSpeech an email with it in as well just after the chap posted about emailing them.
We should both get a copy though
Comment by Paul — Oct 5, 2007 @ 9:51 am
Strange, but there are huge gaps in the number sequence between a lot of the posts?
I don’t really care either way tbh, as long as I’m in the top 5!
I assume ThreeSpeech can see the source file and see every post in sequence, whether it is in moderation or lost in the ether, so if it was assigned a number it will be on file somewhere.
If they look at the raw file they should be able to announce categorically who posted when.
I’d be mightly peeved off if I don’t win mind you
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 5, 2007 @ 10:16 am
Oh well I guess it’s a wait and see thing now!
Best of luck dude!
Comment by Paul — Oct 5, 2007 @ 10:18 am

And the answer was 9!!! And as you can all see the winners are Scott, Neil, Farhan, Paul W and Claire. Could you all email me your full name and address’s and I will get these over to Codemasters who will mail you the game. Nice one.
Comment by Three Speech — Oct 5, 2007 @ 2:32 pm
Fid, it’s called being in the right place at the right time!
To be fair the compeition was open for a good 3 hours before 5 people gave the correct answer (assuming 9 is the correct answer) and was posted after most people get home from work/school etc. I have RSS feeds set up so I normally see new posts relatively quickly.
I never win raffles and random draws anyway so I’m glad they do the first with the right answer!
Also a random draw gives time for anybody to enter in order to win it to sell on ebay or some such, a first come first served means it’s more likely to go to regulars who would actually appreciate the prize - and teach others to visit more regularly!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 5, 2007 @ 2:43 pm
@ Apnomis
Fair point, and I wasn’t being totally serious [although if anyone decides they don’t want their copy i’m happy to give it a loving home

WHAT A BUNCH OF B@ST@RTS!!!!!
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 5, 2007 @ 2:58 pm
@ Apnomis - We had to go on when the comments came in even if they were being moderated. Will try and run more comps though. TS.
Comment by Three Speech — Oct 5, 2007 @ 3:02 pm
Why were they moderated? Is it because they were newbies that have never bothered contributing before until there was prizes involved? That makes it even more unfair!
Oh well, I’ll keep an eye out for that nice game/keyring bundle on ebay
I’m a sore loser at the best of times, but to go from winning to loosing is even worse!
Oh well, I’ll have to stick with Motorstorm to get my off-road racing fix…

Yehaa. Thanks Threespeech.
Arran, I feel for you and I was suffering from the extreme frustration that I couldn’t see my posts coming up but could see yours - if you look at my posts in order I was trying to help drop the hint to everyone but just couldn’t as I was stuck in “Moderation Nirvana!”
Actually, I wonder in future comps, Threespeech should put all answers in moderation and only let the wrong ones through. That would get everyone guessing…
Comment by Scott — Oct 5, 2007 @ 8:20 pm

Comment by Ryan Hardy — Oct 5, 2007 @ 9:07 pm
There are 9 styles of off-road competition in Colin Mcrae’s Dirt.
It’s a great shame about the tragic news of Colin Mcrae, but at least the best Colin Mcrae game out will still bare his name, and hopefully in the future too. That is, if they make anymore.
