The first full reviews of Drake’s are coming through - they are looking pretty, pretty good.
“Truly, Uncharted is the first game I’ve seen to date that makes me wonder if it could be done on the Xbox 360, and as a huge admirer of the software line-up on Microsoft’s system, that’s saying a lot.” Eurogamer
Check the review at IGN here and Eurogamer here.
EDIT: For those that can’t reach certain sites due to work restrictions (like our SH4RKY), IGN scored Drake’s 9.1/10 (Outstanding!) with Eurogamer giving it 9/10.
We also received a rather nice promo box of bits for the game - photos of it this afternoon.

I thought the same with Heavenly Sword
“Don’t think the 360 could do this”

Well change my mind for the umpteeenth time!!!!

Well 360 ain’t getting it so I guess we’ll never find out…

Yep, saw the Eurogamer review this morning but was already sold on this anyway. Can’t wait. They weren’t so kind to Assassin’s Creed (endless comparisons to Crackdown) but still gave it a 7.

I think the Eurogamer review might have tipped it for me.
Sorry wallet!

Would be interesting though - if the developers ran heavenly sword (optimised of course) for the 360 - or more likely - equivalent PC hardware, along those lines somewhat…
Curiosity never hurt anyone!

“Curiosity never hurt anyone”
But I think it might put the developers off if they had to spend months optimising a game for 360 that never got released, only to find out it wasn’t possible anyway

i think that the whole way that the ps3 runs has made devs think differently about how to code games.
if the cells are effectively used i’d be extremely suprised if a “port” would be a simple thing.
what i like is the fact that CPU manufacturers are going the way of more multicores with is bringing the pc market further from the Xb360 and closer to the Ps3.
also, ps3 expensive? no way, i love it cause i can rent and complete all the best games:
uncharted - 8 hours
call of duty 4 - 6 hours
heavenly sword - 6 hours

Eurogamer 9/10
Even stupidly OTT EDGE review wankery gave it 8/10!
Comment by Tony Nibbles — Nov 14, 2007 @ 1:55 pm
I don’t necessarily trust IGN’s reviews: they are often ridiculously enthusiastic and lenient, with the occasional “let’s shoot this game down for no other reason than to act different from everyone”.
Eurogamer, however, don’t hand out 9s easily.
I preordered Uncharted last week, and I fully expected it to be an excellent game. Now, I think it might even surpass my expectations!
If I weren’t already sold on the game, this would have me sold: “Sometimes I like to refer to gaming tourism, where just walking through the game feels like fun unto itself - and this is definitely a game that does that.” (Eurogamer)
When I started Ratchet & Clank, I died 3-4 times on the collapsing rails/bridges of the 1st level, simply because I was admiring the backgrounds instead of paying attention to what was going on around Furball.
Looks like poor Drake is going to get bullet-ridden while I do the same thing with Uncharted…

Reports of screen tearing again just like Heavenly Sword.
3rd party titles i can understand the slow learning curve, but why Sony’s own games suffer from this? As a PS3 owner this worries me.

@9 : Where is the Edge review?
This looks like a Day 1 purchase for me.

Cant get on most gaming sites at work. can any post a list of scores so far please??
Really happy reviews are positive though, Good ol’ Naughty Dog ^_^
Comment by SH4RKY — Nov 14, 2007 @ 2:50 pm
@ SH4RKY - IGN is 9.1 (outstanding) and Eurogamer is 9/10.
Comment by Three Speech — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:12 pm
@13
IGN - 9.1
Eurogamer - 9
Gametap - 9
EDGE - 8 (thanks Tony Nibbles)
Maxiconsolas (Portugal) - 9
Geekpulp.co.nz - probably 9 if they actually gave scores. Here’s what they have to say: “Some games I want to give a score, this is one of them. It promotes gaming as an interactive adventure and an art form, broadening what is possible on a gaming platform. For this alone it deserves acknowledgement; the fact that it controls so well and is very fun just compounds this to make it a great title in gaming history. ”
Most reviews point out the outstanding and fierce AI. That’s something I really like to hear, since AI is usually the weak point in most of today’s games, even the otherwise-outstanding ones.

Thanks for the scores guys.
Can’t wait for the 7th to roll along now!!
Comment by SH4RKY — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:59 pm
Does the Eurogamer or IGN reviews contain spoilers?
Comment by moses — Nov 14, 2007 @ 4:14 pm
@17
No, they don’t. I didn’t read anything that could be considered a spoiler. They just mention the basic storyline that we already know from the trailers.

I heard that the blue ray disk is 80% used in this game… Which means even without the hardware limitations, this would not be possible on Xbox
Comment by coincidence — Nov 15, 2007 @ 11:58 am
@19:
That’s not strictly true; that is, not being able store all of the Uncharted content on an X360.
Microsoft can always use compression to cram as much as possible on a DVD disc. Also, I’m not sure what type of drive the X360 has - dual-layer? Double-sided? So, again, there’s a possibility of squeezing more on there.
In addition, Microsoft can always sell 2 DVDs or users can download the rest from XBL.
If they don’t have XBL, well, tough! They’ll just play a ‘limited’ version of the game or the story elements will be ’shorter’.
If they do have XBL, then it’s up to Microsoft as to whether they charge for it or just make the levels stream into RAM/HDD. Don’t have an HDD model? Tough! That’s the whole point…to make you upgrade!
So, although it will be less flexible than on the PS3, it’s NOT impossible, programming-wise.
No, I’m not an XBot and I don’t own a Revolution either but I’m trying to balance this point of view, because in my opinion, it can be done. I own a PS2 and PSP, actually.
Neither Naughty Dog or Sony have claimed that Uncharted uses the Cell BE so much, that the game could not be written for anything else. And to be honest, the Cell BE merely provides a much more flexible ‘way’ to do something that will probably be more complex to program on ‘traditional’ CPUs…Be they single or multi-core architectures.
And if all else fails, there’s always machine code and interrupts!
