y but games are £50 and orange box is but a week away - I’m torn…
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Dec 4, 2007 @ 11:59 am
Got my U.S copy last week and I’m 90% complete.
This game is absolutely fantastic.
I can honestly say its the first game I’ve ever played where I don’t even stop to think about skipping the cutscenes - it’s truly engrossing.
Absolutely fantastic, the game looks incredible and as the story progresses to new areas, the levels just get better and increasinly impressive both visually and with gameplay - newer weapons, enemies and interactions along the way.
The audio is also excellent. Playing in 7.1 Pro Logic IIx I thought there was a bird outside in the road (I live by the sea) before realising 10 minutes later it was a parrot in the jungle. Extremely crisp audio pumping out from the game on my STR-DA 5200-ES.
If this game had online co-op it would be perfect.
Heavenly Sword should have been as good as this game.

@Mr Jimmy
£20!?!
Where do you shop?
First party PS3 titles are still RRP’d at £39.99.
Get Uncharted online for £32.99

£20….want…give me…demand it…

“y but games are £50 and orange box is but a week away - I’m torn…”
Orange box is apparently just a slideshow on the PS3. Get Uncharted and reward developers who code for the system, not some half-arsed port.
Comment by wasabinator — Dec 4, 2007 @ 12:31 pm
I second that, wasabinator. Orange Box is one to avoid. Uncharted gets my cash - no question.
C’mon Naughty Dog… make Jak 4 your next project!
Comment by Paranoimia — Dec 4, 2007 @ 12:38 pm
@tony nibbles - you’re convincing me good.. I like a real user comment (you are real right?) yeah save a few quid online. probably going for both
@wasabinator - thats one way to look at it, but after all the politics with the porting, it’s supposed to be a perfectly good conversion of a very very good game, I think it will be a worthwhile purchase.
We are all biding time until Unreal and GTAIV right?
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Dec 4, 2007 @ 12:40 pm
Tony Nibbles, or anyone else with a retail copy, please could you answer this simple question for me? I’m a lefty when it comes to my thumbs, is there the option to swap mushrooms? There wasn’t on the demo you see, and I was flumuxed by it. It looks oh so lovely and I want to spank my cash on it, but… well you know, if I can’t control it, whats the chuffin point! I remember buying “Thirteen” on the PS2, and having to give it to my mate cos it fixed your controls. Damn and blast! Anyway, if some kind soul could let me know, I’d be most appreciative!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Dec 4, 2007 @ 12:45 pm
I’m in the same boat as Tony Nibbles… Got it from the US last week and i love the game!
The story is so engrossing and the way the cutscenes carry on during gameplay just adds to the story. The ‘levels’ have the right balance of gunplay Vs exploration Vs puzzles and i’ve never felt bored while playing..
The story is spot on and the humour in the game is right up there too - would recommend anyone with a PS3 to get this game..
Comment by MrGilder — Dec 4, 2007 @ 12:48 pm
paying 65 euros for a game which i just played out in 10 hours is a way2 overpriced game…
thank god i bought it second hand for 40 euros from someone who also played it out in 10 hours.
unfortunatly the game-reviewers all get fired if they have anyting negative to say about games nowadays..
where is the time of 40 hours of gametime before you reach “the end”..
nowadays is quantity over quality (i mean game quality not graphical quality)
before I forgot to mention:
where is PAIN?
Where is Vegas Video poker?
Where is Piyomoto?
Comment by Darkie — Dec 4, 2007 @ 1:00 pm
do not kill me for posting this:
A good for long lasting quantity and good old fashioned quality - Mass Effect (just got to level 40 on Ilos).
Such an outstanding game.

I’ve spent over 20hours completing the game on hard and crushing, collecting all the treasures and all 1000 medal points. My favourite PS3 game, thankyou Naughty Dog.
Very pleased to see this game topping UK online game retailer coming soon charts.

@John Sketch:
You traitor! And all along I thought you were a dedicated Sony fan!
Some of your comments in the past have been sooo “please give me a job, Sony…” that I thought you were one of those people who get hired by a corporation to wax lyrical about their products on blogs and Web sites.
@ThreeSpeech:
So what do the magazines make of Uncharted?

Threespeech where is that update from sony on why the store sucks? it was promised over 9 months ago. I wont go away untilI get an answer OR sony allow me to buy stuff off the US store with my PAL account!!!
Comment by Carl — Dec 4, 2007 @ 5:08 pm
@Darkie - 10hrs of uncharted for 65 euros a rip-off? i finished COD4 (39.99 UKP) in 6hrs and that was with having to find a controller lead halfway though, flat battery!
Resistance took me ages to complete, and Oblivion has no end in sight.
won’t be buying Uncharted, i like games to last longer than an afternoon!! COD4 was saved by arcade modes and online, both things Uncharted doesn’t have.
reviewers NEED to mention how long est. game completion time is!!
Comment by mobiletone — Dec 4, 2007 @ 8:14 pm
@LordOfRuin, #8. — There are no options to switch the stick controls (fixed with left=movement, right=aim/camera). However you can invert vertical and/or horizontal on both movement or camera.
Comment by Flame — Dec 4, 2007 @ 10:37 pm
You guys shouldn’t buy it. I imported it from the US, and it’s truly an amazing, fantasting, breathtaking game, BUT I got it on Friday night and beat it by Saturday evening. It just doesn’t seem worth its value. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think any PS3 owner shouldn’t experience this game. It’s amazing. The story, the visuals, the detail, just the complete package is great, but if I had a chance, I’d just rent it, and beat it.
Comment by NICK — Dec 4, 2007 @ 11:50 pm
Single player games seem to be rarely over 10 hours these days. Uncharted is probably just above average at 10 hours.
A couple of reviews I read state the length was just right (perhaps to avoid repetition?)
What about the collectables / unlockable extras? They sound good to me. I don’t recall a game like this that has a mirror-mode.
Comment by Obli — Dec 5, 2007 @ 12:36 am
For me, quality > quantity every time. I’d rather play (and pay for) a blinding game that lasts 10 hours, than a crock of shite that lasts days/weeks/months.
It’s all down to personal taste, though. My best mate has a 360 and has just bught Mass Effect. He’s so wrapped up in the game that he’s suggested I should get a 360 just to play it.
Only thing is, it’s an RPG. I detest RPGs with a passion, and see them all as rubbish - so for me, that would be a waste of money. Give me Uncharted any day!
Comment by Paranoimia — Dec 5, 2007 @ 1:18 am
I am in the US and bought Uncharted the day it was released here. I played it almost non-stop for days until I completed it. It is the most complete, well thought out, perfectly executed video game I have played in years. I liked Half-Life 2 but it holds nothing compared to Uncharted. The controls in Uncharted are spot-on. You have seen how good the graphics are… nope, I disagree. Until you see the game in motion in HD and start to experience the nuances that cannot be conveyed in review-type video (things like dark areas that lighten up just a bit after your “eyes” adjust, motion blurring in places you’ve never seen in a video game before, fluid animation, not matter what you tell your character to do) you can’t really say you’ve seen it either. Or how about the sound? Things like explosions that make your “ears” ring. Sounds so directional that you can tell not only what side they are on but how far away they are with _extreme_ accuracy, far better than any direction sound in any game I have ever heard before. The level design is awesome as well. I really can’t say enough about just how good this game is. I will say this: If you buy it or rent it, spend the first twenty minutes or so just looking around in the general vicinity when you get to the first island. Let the game environment really sink in so you can truly appreciate all the game has to offer. Naught Dog is to be commended at the highest level for this kind of achievement.

The critics, they do not agree.
Read Kotaku - whilst Orange box PS3 does feature some instances of slowdown it is not bad, and you get a package of 5 of the best games on the planet, go for Unchartered, and get Orange Box, as it is utterly unmissable
Comment by Basil Brush — Dec 5, 2007 @ 10:51 am
Hey Flame, thanks. That’s a blow. I’ll not be buying it then. Fucking Wank!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Dec 5, 2007 @ 12:42 pm
Basil Brush - The critics also say all of the games in the Halo series are awesome. I think they are some of the worst games ever made. They are repetitive shooters. Half-Life is great. Don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think it stands up to the achievement of Uncharted. Its all about the little things. Have you played Uncharted? Hopefully the critics don’t speak for you personally and you are willing to make up your own mind. At least rent Uncharted and give it a try. Any gamer who has a PS3 and doesn’t at least give Uncharted a try will truly be missing out on a fantastic experience.
Comment by Intrepidsilence — Dec 5, 2007 @ 2:17 pm
This game is incredible. Graphics + gameplay + story are all excellent. It is like playing an Indiana Jones movie. Good stuff.
